About Us
We have a passion for native meadows

Our Story
Salish Sea Meadows is all about restoring our native wildflower meadows in the San Juan Islands. In 2016, we purchased a small parcel on Lopez Island and recognized that there were a few camas along the shoreline. We began to weed out hairy cats ear and cut back the encroaching shrubs and more wildflowers emerged. As we spent more time on the land, we noticed more wildflowers, many of which had been hidden in the tall grass and weeds. This parcel was a remnant meadow.
We set a goal to restore the remnant to its native wildflower meadow glory, as well as transform the ¼ acre European tall fescue field to a meadow. We propagated wildflowers, planted, sowed seed, and weeded, weeded, weeded. We learned a lot about meadows, native plants, meadow restoration, and the meadow ecosystem. It has been a fascinating five years.
As the restoration efforts continued, we enjoyed helping fellow islanders restore the coastal meadow ecosystems on their lands. This website is an effort to expand this support and to bring this beautiful ecosystem back to the islands. We are excited to share with you what we have learned along the way.
Our goal is to help expand these meadow landscapes in the San Juan Islands. As such, 25% of all native plant proceeds go toward meadow restoration efforts. Thank you for joining us on this journey to bring camas meadows back to the San Juan Islands.
